Moonshot plans to open-weight Kimi K3 - the biggest frontier open bet gets a permanent home

Moonshot AI says it will release the weights of Kimi K3 - the 2.8-trillion-parameter model that already unsettled Wall Street.

In plain terms - Moonshot AI plans to publish the weights of Kimi K3, the frontier model it launched earlier in July. If it ships, K3 becomes the largest open-weight model on the market.

Tech in Asia reports (27 July 2026) that Moonshot AI intends to release K3 as open-weight. K3 was announced with 2.8 trillion parameters (Moonshot's own disclosure, covered in publication #1190) and hit GA on 16 July 2026 (#1185). The UK AISI and CAISI joint cyber assessment (publication #1611) already treated K3 as a frontier reference, before any weights were public.
