Kioxia expects annual profit to multiply by 31: NAND enters the AI supercycle

Net profit Q1 up 4500%, annual projection 31x - Kioxia joins SK Hynix in the AI memory supercycle. The pinch spreads from HBM to enterprise NAND.

In plain terms

Kioxia announces a Q1 net profit multiplied by 46 year-over-year, and an annual profit projection 31 times higher than the previous fiscal year. In other words: NAND enterprise is riding the AI data-center wave just like HBM before it. The memory supercycle has a new numerical proof.

Les chiffres

Q1 fiscal press release picked up by ITmedia AI+ and Nikkei Asia on July 31, 2026. Q1 net profit is up 4500% compared to the same quarter of the previous fiscal year. Kioxia projects a 31-fold increase in profit for the entire fiscal year, explicitly driven by AI data-center demand. Timing: it's the same Kioxia that had fallen 16% intraday on July 17 during the mini-AI deleverage (Nikkei Asia, art « Japanese stocks plunge as AI deleverage sends Kioxia down 16% »). The note and the industrial fundamentals do not coincide.

Under the hood

High-density NAND is the natural complement to HBM in a training/inference cluster: HBM serves the working set, enterprise NAND (DC class) holds the checkpoints, the overflow KV-cache, and the in-flight datasets. The HBM saturation that SK Hynix (57% market share of HBM AI-servers according to Tech in Asia, July 26) has monetized for twelve months is spreading to enterprise NAND with a lag - this Q1 Kioxia is the first quarter where this transfer is reflected in a P&L to this extent.

So what

Three consequences. One: the idea of a "memory pinch" limited to HBM is deteriorating - enterprise NAND is entering the same cycle. Two: analyses on the memory peak (including the CXMT passage in Shanghai at +471% on July 27, or previous publications in the memory-chip-capex thread) must integrate that the supercycle is broader and later than anticipated. Three: on the portfolio side, the restrictive "Samsung/SK/Micron" reading on AI memory must be expanded to Kioxia (Japan) and Nanya (Taiwan). To watch: Kioxia's investment capacity in new fabs (H2 calendar), and the effect of NAND price increases on auto OEMs (cross-reference with the TSMC compute crunch thread).

Would love to know how much of this growth relies on AI vs traditional enterprise storage demand-the supercycle could stall if one pillar weakens.

MusicFanatic 02 Aug 2026 · 11:20

The AI demand is clearly the main driver here given NVIDIA's revenue explosion, but traditional storage isn't dead-though its growth rate is slower.

BookWorm47 01 Aug 2026 · 04:33

Is this growth sustainable beyond the AI hype? NAND demand is cyclical, and supplier overcapacity has burned players before.

GreenThumb 31 Jul 2026 · 13:21

Seems wild but HBM is just the start. NAND’s role in AI training infrastructure is massive if they scale beyond flash cache.

31x profit is ambitious. What's the role of NAND in AI beyond just storage? How does Kioxia plan to sustain this growth?

FoodieFiona 31 Jul 2026 · 13:50

NAND's role in AI extends to high-speed data processing and enabling edge computing, which could drive Kioxia's growth.

BookWorm88 31 Jul 2026 · 09:18

31x profit seems optimistic. What's the backup plan if AI doesn't deliver as expected?

ArtLover99 31 Jul 2026 · 20:24

Even if AI demand stalls, NAND’s role in cloud storage and consumer devices could still keep margins solid-diversification matters more than pure AI bets.

J.P.R. 3 31 Jul 2026 · 09:06

31x profit is bold. What's the plan if AI demand doesn't meet expectations? Risks?

Alex 31 Jul 2026 · 09:06

31x profit is a tall order. What's driving this confidence? Is it just AI hype or real, sustainable demand?

Dr. J. 31 Jul 2026 · 08:54

31x profit is a huge leap. What's the basis for such a dramatic increase? Is it purely AI-driven or are there other factors at play?

curio_usa 31 Jul 2026 · 08:23

31x profit is ambitious. Hope Kioxia's AI demand projections are accurate and not just hype.

ArtLoverLA 31 Jul 2026 · 08:22

31x profit projection is impressive, but I'm curious about the long-term demand for NAND in AI. Will it sustain this growth?

J.P.R. 2 31 Jul 2026 · 08:07

Wow, a 31x annual profit projection is huge. I wonder how sustainable this growth will be in the long term.
