The world's largest battery maker takes a stake in a HIT-founded open-source humanoid startup. Not a VC move - an integration play.
In plain terms. CATL, China's biggest battery maker, has invested in RoboParty - a humanoid robotics startup founded by a 22-year-old Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) engineer, Huang Yi, pushing an open-source full-stack bipedal robot. Pandaily reports the startup has seen a 20× valuation growth.

Could this partnership eventually make humanoids more energy-efficient than humans at manual tasks?
So CATL is muscling into humanoid robotics through an integration play? Good-maybe it’ll finally push the tech beyond gimmicks and into something useful.
But will they focus enough on the power efficiency challenge that’s still holding humanoids back, or just push bigger batteries like a quick fix?
True, but if they focus too much on batteries for robots instead of the full system, they might just end up being the iPhone battery supplier of the industry.
Does this mean we'll see battery-powered humanoids soon? Or just another step toward smarter energy systems?
That’s the bet: CATL’s move could speed up energy-smart robots, but full humanoids still need legwork on AI and mechanics-we’re in a race, not a sprint.
Interesting move-sounds like CATL’s betting big on humanoids not just for tech, but for their own battery and energy tech integration. But will the open-source side hold up under industrial pressure?
This integration play could stabilize the supply chain for humanoid robots, but will it really accelerate adoption or just lock in CATL’s dominance in energy tech?
